The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced German energy-market professional to take ownership of key market operations, regulatory and compliance processes within a growing, technology-led energy business.

This role would suit someone who has worked within the German electricity market and has strong practical knowledge of areas such as balancing and settlement, market communication, metering, energy data and regulatory market processes.

This is not a purely legal or policy-focused compliance position. We are looking for someone who understands how German electricity-market rules translate into day-to-day operational processes and can take responsibility for ensuring those processes work effectively.

You will work closely with colleagues across operations, technology and commercial functions, as well as external market participants and industry bodies.

The business operates internationally, therefore professional fluency in English is essential. You must be comfortable conducting meetings, discussing technical energy-market topics and communicating with senior colleagues in English.

Gesucht wird eine selbstständige, lösungsorientierte Persönlichkeit mit fundiertem Verständnis des deutschen Energiemarktes, die Verantwortung übernimmt und eng mit internationalen Kollegen sowie externen Marktpartnern zusammenarbeitet.

Da das Unternehmen international aufgestellt ist, sind sehr gute Englischkenntnisse zwingend erforderlich. Kandidaten müssen sicher in der Lage sein, Meetings, fachliche Diskussionen und die Kommunikation mit internationalen Stakeholdern auf Englisch zu führen.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of key German electricity-market operational and compliance processes.
• Manage and support balancing and settlement processes, including MaBiS and Bilanzkreis-related activities.
• Oversee and improve market communication (Marktkommunikation / MaKo) processes.
• Support processes relating to GPKE, WiM, metering and energy data management.
• Ensure operational processes remain aligned with relevant Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA) requirements and German electricity-market rules.
• Monitor regulatory and market-process changes and assess their operational impact on the business.
• Translate regulatory requirements into clear operational processes, controls and system requirements.
• Investigate operational, settlement or data issues and take ownership through to resolution.
• Work with external market participants including suppliers, network operators, metering organisations and other industry counterparties.
• Support the testing and implementation of new processes, systems and regulatory changes.
• Identify opportunities to automate, simplify and improve existing operational processes.
• Develop appropriate controls, reporting and documentation to support ongoing market compliance.
• Work closely with technology teams to ensure systems and data support German market requirements.

Experience We're Looking For

You will ideally have several years' experience within the German electricity or energy market, gained within an energy supplier, utility, Stadtwerk, market-service provider, network business or energy technology organisation.

We would particularly like to see experience across several of the following:

• EDIFACT market communication
• WiM / Messwesen

• Regulatory or market-change implementation
• Working with BNetzA / BDEW requirements

You do not need to have worked across every one of these areas. Strong German electricity-market knowledge combined with the ability to understand and take ownership of complex operational processes is more important.

Language Requirements

Professional fluency in English is essential.

The wider business operates in English, and you will regularly communicate with international colleagues and senior management. You therefore need to be confident discussing technical, operational and regulatory matters in English.

Fluent German is also required due to the nature of the German market, regulatory documentation and interaction with local market participants.
